June 9, 2011

ProEnglish members all across the nation have been phoning and emailing their Congressman to cosponsor the English Language Unity Act (H.R. 997) which would make English the official language of the United States.  Thousands of messages and phone calls have resulted in 25 NEW cosponsors (currently totaling 85), but YOUR Congressman is not one of them!

Call your Congressman's Capitol Hill and district office to urge him to sign-on to H.R. 997 as a cosponsor TODAY!

The degree of support for a piece of congressional legislation is measured by its number of cosponsors. 24 former Congressmen who previously cosponsored H.R. 997 during the 2009-2010 session are no longer in Congress, so it's important that you convey to your Representative—especially if they are a Freshman Member—why they should support making English the official language of the United States. Congressional Leadership is more likely to advance a bill that has well over 100 cosponsors, so let's make that happen!

TAKE ACTION!

If passed and signed into law, the English Language Unity Act of 2011 will:

Make English the official language of the United States.

• Require that naturalization/citizenship ceremonies are conducted in English.

• Set the framework for uniform testing of English language ability for candidates for naturalization.

Contrary to our opponents’ mis-information campaign, official English does not mean "English-only." Official English simply means that for the government to act officially (or, legally), it must communicate in the English language. It means that the language of record is the English language, and that no one has a right to demand government services in any other language.

We need H.R. 997 to help send a clear message to local towns and cities all across the country who are being bullied by the likes of the ACLU and multiculturalist bureaucrats, like NY Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, who just last week threatened the small town of Jackson, NY into repealing its official English ordinance.

TAKE ACTION!
