February 17, 2011

The state senate has begun the new legislative session, and SB 590 has been placed at the top of the priority list!

Sponsored by Sen. Delph (R-Carmel), SB 590 requires that only English be used—with certain exceptions such as in cases of public health and promotion of tourism—in public meetings, public documents, by officers and employees of state or political subdivisions in performing their duties, and providing information communicated electronically by the state or a political subdivision.

The English provisions contained in SB 590 simply provide implementation rules to enforce the 27-year-old official English law of Indiana.

TAKE ACTION!

SB 590 successfully passed out of the Senate Pensions and Labor Committee by a vote of 8 to 1 last week, and it passed out of the Appropriations Committee by a vote of 8 to 5 this week.

SB 590 now heads to the Indiana Senate floor for an up-or-down vote!

Call and email your state senator NOW and tell him to vote YES on SB 590!
