Yesterday, a united Senate GOP presented a letter to Majority Leader Harry Reid. The letter was signed by all 42 sitting Republican Senators and pledged to filibuster any measure until the Senate addressed the looming income tax hikes that are set to go into effect on December 31, 2010 at midnight. All issues unrelated to taxes, including the DREAM Act, will be unable to advance in the Senate.

After the news of this letter broke, Majority leaders in the House hustled to prepare for a possible Thursday vote. Although it remains uncertain when they will try to bring the DREAM Act to the House floor, it is critical to keep the phone calls coming into your representative's office to urge opposition.  A vote on DREAM today seems unlikely, which leaves next week as their target for a vote.

Last evening, Rep. Steve King of Iowa sent a request to CBO Director Doug Elmendorf that he release the cost analysis of the DREAM Act before the House or the Senate moves to consider it for a vote after the legislation was rumoured to carry a staggering price tag of $20 billion.

Rep. King wrote:

"In light of recent reports that the DREAM Act in the form of S. 3827, H.R. 1751, or the most recently introduced S. 3992, will be voted on in Congres as early as tomorrow, December 2, 2010, I respectfully request an official score be produced or released by the Congressional Budget Office."

ProEnglish also released a statement supporting the request for a CBO cost analysis before the DREAM Act comes to a vote.

To date, five different versions of the DREAM Act have now been introduced in an effort to slightly narrow the scope of the amnesty as well as bring down the reportedly hefty cost. Though the changes attempt to reduce the number of people who would be legalized, the changes have done nothing to address the language component and require that English proficiency be a prerequisite for legalization.

Your calls are very important and have effectively prevented the DREAM Act from going to the floor for a vote thus far.

Please continue calling your representative and urge them to vote NO on the DREAM Act!
