NEWS FLASH

House narrowly passes amnesty, Senate votes to delay
December 9, 2010

More Info

Thanks to your thousands of calls and emails into Congress this week, the House just narrowly passed its version of the DREAM Act (H.R. 5281) last night by a vote of 216 to 198 (House Roll Call 625). Eight Republicans voted YES, 38 Democrats voted NO, and 20 Members did not vote at all. Of course, had those who were absent voted on the bill, the DREAM Act could have been defeated.

The Senate pushed off their planned Wednesday vote until today. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid attempted to hold a vote on the House-passed version of the DREAM Act rather than proceeding to the Senate version (S. 3992) today. But, he was denied consent to do this, so instead, he offered a motion to table (to kill) his own motion to proceed to the Senate DREAM Act, which was agreed to by a vote of 59-40 (Senate Roll Call 268). This means that a Senate vote on the DREAM Act has been further delayed, and it will not occur this week.

We believe that Sen. Reid motioned to kill his own vote because the Senate did not have the votes to pass it.

THANK YOU!

Your phone calls were so important this week and we thank you for flooding Congress' switchboard. Your calls have stalled the advancement of the DREAM Act amnesty!

We will continue to alert you to any future developments on this legislation in the next week.
