Everyone and their mother has heard about Randy Cunneyworth, the much maligned, definitely interim head coach of the Montreal Canadiens. The poor guy doesn't speak a lick of French and has been thrown into the position of head coach for the team which most French Canadians identify as their own. This has the French media in a tizzy.
I feel for the French sports media in Montreal right now. How can they conduct their business when they have to spend so much time translating what the coach tells them? Translating not only takes time, it costs a lot of money. Just ask the federal government. Translation is a cash cow and for good reason; we are, after all, a bilingual country. Heck, 2012 is the 30th anniversary of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms which enshrined language rights into our constitution.
