A
Petition
to make English the official language of
the United States of America
WHEREAS, we welcome the cultural contributions of all
people into the melting pot of the United States of America;
WHEREAS, in the course of our history, the English language has been the
common bond that, for more than two centuries, has held together our diverse
citizenry, enabling us to become a cohesive and united nation;
WHEREAS, the use of multiple versions of government documents and services
in several languages leads to misunderstandings due to mistranslation, represents
an inefficient use of taxpayers' money, and promotes a sense of separation
among residents;
WHEREAS, the adoption of an official language enhances unity and honors
our ancestors from all lands who learned English and immigrants today who
continue that tradition;
WHEREAS, an official language of government in no way interferes with anyone's
right to maintain, use and develop other language skills,
THEREORE, as a citizen of the United States and a resident of the state
of _____________, I respectfully petition the President of the United States
and the members of the United States Congress to establish English as the
official language of the United States.
