ProEnglish SUPPORTS the following official English and related bills introduced in the House of Representatives in the 110th Congress:
H.R. 997: The English Language Unity Act of 2007; Introduced by Steve King (R-IA)
- Declares that English is the official language of the United States
- Creates uniform standards for testing English fluency during the naturalization process
- Requires that naturalization ceremonies be conducted in English
H.R. 769: National Language Act of 2007; Introduced by Peter King (R-NY)
- Declares that English is the official language of the United States
- Repeals the bilingual ballot requirements of the Voting Rights Act
- Requires that naturalization ceremonies be conducted in English
